Where is your studio located?

My studio is an attached garage to my house in West Orange, NJ. It is about 400 square feet with no air conditioning or heat. I have one small window.

I always feel lucky to have a space to work.

What's your studio routine?

I do not have a routine right now because of medical and teaching commitments. However, I make it a priority to get in the studio for at least a few minutes or a few hours, 5 days a week. I always have works in progress so I am not pressured to start new. Sometimes I straighten up before I begin or sit in a chair and look around.

What do you typically listen to?

I listen to a variety of music on Spotify.

What's your medium?

It depends. I really enjoy experimenting. Each medium has its own characteristics that engage my senses. I use oil paint, RF Pigment sticks, paper, wax, encaustic, thread, smoke and fire.

What's your favorite tool?

I love my rolling carts for materials.

Does your studio affect your work?

It does. The lighting is not great, so I find my work is very keyed up when it is out of the studio.
